Rio de Janeiro —
Algeriagained a nice victory against the defensive vulnerable
South Korean soccer team: 4-2. It might be the start of a
historic World Cup performancefor the North Africans.
Algeria stranded three times in the World Cup group stage(1982, 1986, 2010), but this time the World Cup 2014 second round beckons. Because of the convincing victory over South Korea, the team of coach Vahid Halilhodzic has qualification for the second round in its own hands.
Algeria thanks the good position in
Group H- South Korea and Russia are after two matches both at one point - to a stormy first half in Estádio Beira-Rio in Porto Alegre.
At half-time, Algeria put a 3-0 lead on the scoreboard. That score was certainly not unjustified, given Algeria's fresh play, which was in sharp contrast to the poor resistance from South Korea. The Asian soccer team was outclassed by the unleashed Algerians.
Islam Slimani could score in the 26th minute when central defenders Young-Gwon Kim and Jeong-Ho Hong did not intervene. Two minutes later, Rafik Halliche benefited from a miscalculation of goalkeeper Jung Sung-Ryong.
The final blow of Abdelmoumene Djabou was initiated by incorrect handling of a deep ball from Algeria by the South Koreans. Slimani benefited and underlined his major role in the success of The Desert Warriors in this World Cup soccer match.
Forced by the backlog, immediately after half-time South Korea made a promising start. The quick goal of Heung-Min Son offered perspective, but the Algerian goalie Raïs M'Bolhi was often an obstacle. Moreover, with about half an hour to go, Yacine Brahimi scored 4-1.
Despite the defeat, South Korea is not out of the tournament yet. A victory against Belgium can be a solution if Algeria does not win the other last soccer match in Group H against Russia. The second goal of South Korean player Ja-Cheol Koo in the 72nd minute can thereby be crucial if the goal difference is decisive in case of an equal number of points.
