Rio de Janeiro — Greece does not exactly have the most adventurous team of World Cup 2014, so when
Kostas Katsouraniswas sent off after half an hour, it actually meant the end of the soccer match against Japan.
Although the Japanese were trying to break down the Greek wall, it failed helplessly. The 0-0 final score was therefore inevitable and
Greece-Japanwas probably the most boring match at
World Cup 2014so far.
Second yellow card for Katsouranis: Moment of the Match
|Katsouranis gave referee Joel Aguilar from El Salvador no choice of showing twice the yellow card, making Team Greece to play with a man down for more than an hour.
The Europeans then confined to defending and playing for time, with an occasional long ball forward in the hope it would create an opportunity.
Greece, European Champions in 2004, some possibilities from corner kicks, but Japanese goalkeeper Eiji Kawashima kept his mind on the job.
Japan tried to keep pressure on the Greek defense and also got the best opportunities. However, the Asians emphatically lack a finishing player in their midst and failed to score.
After two matches, Greece and Japan both have one point. In
World Cup 2014 group C, Colombia leads with six points and are sure of the second round. Côte d'Ivoire is second with three points.
