Rio de Janeiro — Uruguay may thank
Luis Suarezon its bare knees that he is fit again after a knee surgery. The star striker of
Uruguayoffered his team a hard-won victory against
Englandby scoring twice: 2-1. England is virtually eliminated at World Cup 2014 by the second defeat in the group stage.
It was a wonderful soccer match in Sao Paulo. Both teams played aggressively and there were chances to score at both sides.
In the 9th minute, a free kick from Wayne Rooney was nearly missed. Also a header from ManU's striker ended at the crossbar after half an hour.
On the other hand it was Cristian Rodríguez who hammered the ball just over Joe Hart's cage.

Eventually Suarez scored the opening goal after 39 minutes. After a delightful cross from Edinson Cavani, the Liverpool striker headed contrariness behind Joe Hart: 1-0. In the meantime, Diego Godin was lucky he was not sent of after a few serious violations.
In the second half, Uruguay immediately took the initiative again. Suarez once more was close to scoring after a corner, but Hart could save. Also Cavani almost scored
Uruguay's second goal, but the ball went wide. For England, it was Rooney again who had the greatest chance to score the equalizer. From ten metres he had the ball for an easy score, but goalkeeper Fernando Muslera of Uruguay saved beautifully. After that the game was up and down.
A heavy collision with the knee of Raheem Sterling looked like the end of the match of even the tournament for Alvaro Pereira, but eventually the Uruguayan soccer player refused a substitution.
Then it was Rooney who equalized the score for England. The forward who had never scored in a World Cup until this evening, received the ball from Glen Johnson and did not fail this time: 1-1. Daniel Sturridge had moments later the second English goal on his shoe, but Muslera turned his efforts.
Just before the end,
Suarez scored the winning goal. A goal kick by the Uruguayan goalkeeper was headed by a flick-on and was intercepted by Suarez who mercilessly lashed 2-1. A new World Cup fairy tale was born, but the English dream was shattered to pieces.
