Where to go in Brazil? Itinerary suggestions
|Picking the ‘best’
destinationsto visit in such a large country as Brazil, is almost not feasible. What to include, what to leave out? Furthermore, to a large extent much depends on your budget and available time.
Keep in mind if you want to travel by road, much of your time will be consumed by travelling from A to B. Distances and travel times mentioned by this website are according to Google Maps and for indication purposes only; they are only useful for planning if you have your own vehicle and when you incorporate in your itinerary extra time for unexpected delays.
Travel by bustakes a lot longer. To get an idea, just have a look at the individual ‘transportation’ sections mentioned for each city.
If you want to see a lot in a short time, flying to several destinations is your best option. Although the major Brazilian airlines TAM and GOL both offer an economical Brazil Airpass, which allows you to take several
domestic flights, air travel will still consume much of your budget.
Finally, in order to draw an itinerary of ‘must see’ destinations, much depends on the traveller’s personal preferences. If you are a beach lover, you can spend a month at the Brazilian north coast alone. If you are not, then this part of Brazil might be rather boring for you. If you like cosmopolitan metropolises you can indulge in
Rio de Janeiro and Sao Paulo, but if you are more a nature lover and eco enthusiast, you might find these cities horrific.
Conclusion: the good thing about Brazil is there is something for everyone. The downside: where to start?
Nonetheless, we tried to give a few itinerary suggestions for your convenience, based upon a three weeks’ time span, a midrange budget and the lack of a private vehicle. Here and there we included some ‘side trips’ in case you have more time available. Besides a 'highlight' trip, we also composed some tailor-made theme trips.
After the above, it should be clear that in no way our
suggested itinerariesare definite and complete; use them as guides only when planning your own trip. In our itineraries we never rush and time for unexpected delays is included.
Note: If you are bound to one destination, for example when you are on a business trip, for each city there is plenty of information on city sights, day trips and trips further afield in the 'Cities in Brazil' section. Our suggested itineraries include several cities/ destinations for 3 weeks leisure trips.
