Rio de Janeiro —
Brazil thinks it needs five years to be the largest beef producer in the world. In order to become this, the South American country needs to
overtake the United States.
Australia is still a strong competitor in meat production, but that country suffers more and more from water shortage, according to Fernando Sampaio, president of the Brazilian Association of Exporters.
beef exports from Brazilhave increased sevenfold.
In addition, Europe is the main consuming market and Russia is the largest beef purchaser.
Figures show that the meat industry plays an important part in the Brazilian economy: about 7 million people are employed in the meat producing sector in Brazil.
