Dilma Vana Rousseff (Belo Horizonte, December 14, 1947) has been the President of Brazil since 2011. She is a member of the Brazilian Workers' Party (PT; Partido dos Trabalhadores). From 15 of June 2005 to 1 of April 2010, Mrs Rousseff was adviser to Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva and chief of staff of his cabinet. Before that, she was more than two and a half years Minister of Energy. In 2010, Mrs Rousseff participated in the national presidential elections. The first round was held on 3 October 2010. Dilma Rousseff received the most votes, but not a majority, then a second round took place on 31 October. In addition, she won with 55 percent of the votes. Her opponent was the Social Democrat Jose Serra, former mayor of Sao Paulo and Governor of Sao Paulo state. Dilma Rousseff was sworn in on 1 of January 2011 as the first female president in the history of Brazil . On 26 October 2014, president Rousseff won the presidential elections 2014 which allows her a second term until 2018. She was sworn in on 1 January 2015.
